Rebuild
Almost as soon as we open our eyes each morning, the realization that the world around us is broken quickly returns to mind. Many people check their phones when they wake up and are assaulted by images that may evoke a range of emotions from joy to sadness to rage. As our day continues and we inevitably encounter other people, the demands of time, patience, and pleasure often dictate how these engagements will go. Soon it is the evening and if we have a moment of quiet, our thoughts may turn inward as we face reminders of any significant regrets in our life, ponder the deficiencies of our relationships, and begin to dwell on the loneliness in which we find ourselves.
Is this all life has to offer?
Is each day a simple rehearsal of the last as I continue the routine of waking up, busying myself throughout the day, and distracting myself at night until I fall asleep and can begin the bland march towards death over again?
How can we break out of the monotonous rhythm of barely getting by and truly begin to intentionally engage with life in a way that truly feels like living?
One consistent theme I find when my life seems dull is that I have neglected to look critically at my day. I may recognize moments of discomfort or times when I reacted poorly to a situation, but do I really spend the time thinking through my day to discern God’s presence and his love for me in each moment? The more we can make ourselves aware of the opportunities to both receive as well as share love, the sooner we can make a meaningful change in our own lives as well as the lives of those we encounter.
One of the main purposes of the knowHis.love project is to create a platform to make God’s love accessible to those who encounter our content and to help normalize speaking about God’s particular love for each of us in daily conversations. In other words, we are looking to build a culture rooted in God’s love that can have a meaningful impact in our daily lives. One way that this site can help provide an additional avenue (in addition to our podcast, other articles, and Stories) is through a resources page where we can collect practical ways of building a culture rooted firmly in God’s love.
The first resource I would like to offer is a nightly examination that can (hopefully) promote a healthy look at our day to see how we were able to recognize God’s presence, receive his love, and share his love with others. I would encourage you to spend time with this each night in prayer as you not only look over your day, but also prepare for what will come tomorrow by making a commitment to build a culture of love with everyone you encounter.
If you have the opportunity to pray with this nightly examination for a few weeks, I would love to hear how it has helped you grow in love. Feel free to reach out to us at knowhisdotlove@gmail.com or on our social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
